3rd Century B.C. – The origins
Early origins of pizza described as a "flat round of dough dressed with olive oil, herbs, and honey baked on stones" can be found in the first history of Rome written by Marcus Porcius Cato (234-149 B.C.).
1st Century A.D. – The first pizzerias
In the ashes after Mount Vesuvius erupted and smothered Pompeii on August 24, 79 A.D., evidence was found of a flat flour cake that was baked and widely eaten at that time in Pompeii and nearby Naples. Evidence was also found in Pompeii of shops, complete with marble slabs and other tools, which resemble the conventional pizzerias.
16th Century – The discovery of tomato and the contemporary era of pizza

In 1522 tomatoes were brought back to Europe from the New World (Peru). The poorer people of Naples added the new tomatoes to their yeast dough and created the first simple pizza, as we know it. The contemporary era of pizza begins.
21st Century – The third dimension of pizza and the new era...
After discovering that earth is rounded and not flat, after proofing that planet earth turns around the sun and not vice versa, the last popular belief has been confuted, pizza is not anymore a "flat round of dough"! The third dimension of pizza is finally unveiled and a new era is now beginning.
